Brow Lift

A wrinkled or heavy brow can make you look severe and a lot older than you feel. A brow lift can give you a more youthful appearance in the upper face by smoothing forehead wrinkles and repositioning brows.

Your face communicates many of your thoughts and feelings -- especially your eyes, eyebrows and forehead. If your brow is furrowed or wrinkled, you could be expressing unintended emotions. Dr. Schleicher may recommend a brow lift to help improve the appearance of your upper face, eliminate forehead wrinkles and reposition your brows for a more youthful appearance.

Brow Lift

What to Expect

A brow lift is done on an outpatient basis. You'll be given intravenous sedation or general anesthesia so you will be comfortable during the surgical procedure. Dr. Schleicher will use an endoscope (a thin tube with a camera on the end) and special instruments placed through small incisions made within the hairline. This allows the tissue and muscle beneath the skin to be adjusted, correcting visible creases and furrows in the forehead. For patients with very high foreheads, an incision just in front of the hairline may be recommended, which will restore a youthful, lower anterior brow line  while simultaneously lifting the brow line to an attractive position.

Brow lift incisions are typically closed with removable or absorbable sutures, skin adhesives or special clips. You'll be sent home with your head wrapped in dressings, which are usually removed on the first or second day after surgery. Initial discomfort is easily controlled with oral medication. Sutures or staples are removed within 10 days and most swelling and bruising are gone in 7 to 10 days. Results appear within a few weeks as swelling and bruising subside to reveal smoother forehead skin and a more youthful appearance. You can expect to be back at work within 2 weeks and to see final results in approximately 6 months.

Risks

Deciding if a brow lift is right for you and the specific risks involved can only be determined after a consultation with Dr. Schleicher . All surgical procedures have some degree of risk. Minor complications that do not affect the outcome occur occasionally, while major complications are unusual.
